Strengthening Your Spiritual Muscle: My Journey to Reading the New Testament

So at the beginning of my Christian walk I struggled to read the word, I used to just read a few verses in a chapter and fall asleep, get distracted, and sometimes it was even hard to finish a chapter up until I decided to ask God to help me. As we work towards strengthening our spiritual muscles I encourage you to do the same and ask 'God to help you'. and even then on some days it's not going to be easy but you have to keep on showing up consistently.


How do you get started?

  1. Know your Why - ask yourself why you read the bible ??? My answer was I really wanted to hear GOD's voice and his voice is the word. So I realized I have to spend more time in his word for me to know him and be able to hear him for myself. That's how my journey started. We read the bible because it shows us God's character and provides us with God's revelation of himself to us. We receive guidance about how we can live our lives in the way God would want us to.

  2. Get a simpler version - You want to get a bible that you understand and can read properly.

  3. Get yourself a planner, and CHOOSE how you want to read the word. Some months it's going to be based on chapters, sometimes authors, and sometimes even specific topics. make sure you have a plan of action and scheduled time daily for reading the word.

  4. You can use devotional books to get started or even join a bible study group.

So this year I want to invite you to join me in studying the bible. Let's grow our spiritual muscle together. Our goal for 2023 is to read the whole new testament.


Background

The Bible has 66 books—39 of the 'Old Testament,' and 27 of the 'New Testament. We are starting with the 4 gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John). We will be reading the gospels over a period of 3 months(Feb, Mar, Apr).


I have picked the gospels first because I really just want to know and understand how Jesus lived his life on earth, and his character. HOW he set healthy boundaries, his daily walk and how to just be more like him.
